Having not grown up in southern California and working a lot, I still do not have a lot of friends outside of work. With the craze of the Internet, namely social networking sites, I decided to give a trouble a try. I joined the ones that were considered the most popular, namely MySpace and Friendster. Although I did have a lot of e-mail in my inbox that originated from these two websites, I would have preferred that they would have ended up in my bulk section.
The messages that I were receiving were either from girls that wanted to “add” them as a friend only to look at their webcam sites for ads or they were bands that were trying to make a name for themselves. Rarely did I have the opportunity to meet new people through MySpace that were worth talking to.
Having almost given up of the search for new friends through social networking websites, a friend of mine told me about Medsocial, which he told me about. He said that even though Medsocial is targeted at the medical profession, there are a lot of intelligent people that are a part of the community.
Being from Colorado and living in southern California, I am a very outdoors person. I like to keep in shape, keep healthy eating habits and learn about the world of health and medicine.
But more than that, Medsocial seems like a social networking website that is more mature than maybe some of the other social networking sites. I feel that the discussions are intelligent, wither it be e-mails with the friends that I have obtained, or from the blog postings or the forum section that allows many intelligent discussions.
Having said all of this, Medsocial is coming around to other things that other social networking websites has. It is still great to have a friends list that all the other social networking sites have. It makes it much easier to connect with those who I talk to on a regular basis. Also, I love being allowed to have a profile which allows me to post information about myself as well as pictures.
Like I said earlier, the blog and the forum sections are great. I like how the forum sections are separated into topics so that you can talk about a variety of health topics. Plus I always like having blogs to talk to others about things that are health related and those that are not.
Plus one thing unique to Medsocial is the points system. The website actually rewards you for participating on the website. You can receive points for just putting information about yourself, posting blogs and answering in the forum section. The rewards are enhanced website features and name awareness, but it is still fun.
Medsocial is really the only social networking site that I use, it is the only one really worth my time. And I can tell that it is getting better. It says they are going to offer videos, health calculators and drug information soon. Until then, I will be waiting.
